Electrodeionization (EDI):

Overview: EDI is an advanced water purification process that combines ion exchange resins with electricity to remove ionized and ionizable species from water.

Ion Exchange Resins: Water flows through a series of cation and anion exchange resins that capture dissolved ions.

Electric Current: An applied electric field continuously regenerates the resins by driving captured ions out of the resin and into a waste stream.

Membranes: Selective membranes allow only certain ions to pass, further purifying the water.

Continuous Operation: Unlike traditional ion exchange systems, EDI does not require chemical regeneration, making it a more sustainable option.

Use: Production of ultrapure water for drug formulation and equipment cleaning.

Reason: EDI ensures the highest purity levels without introducing chemical contaminants.
